UCNS Welcomes New Board Members

5-22-2019 The United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) is pleased to announce the election of Paul G. Fisher, MD as the new Chair of the Board of Directors. Dr. Fisher has served on the Board since 2017 as a representative of the Child Neurology Society. He is a Professor of Child Neurology at Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, California, and has been certified in Neuro-oncology since 2008.

Other new members welcomed to the Board of Directors include: 

Lawrence R. Wechsler, MD, was elected to serve as a voting member representing the Association of University Professors of Neurology. Dr. Wechsler is the Chair of the Department of Neurology is a professor of Neurology and Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has been UCNS-certified in Neuroimaging since 2015.

Imad Jarjour, MD, represents the subspecialty of Autonomic Disorders as a voting member of the Board and was nominated by the American Autonomic Society and American Academy of Neurology’s Autonomic Nervous System Section. Dr. Jarjour is a UCNS diplomate, certified in Autonomic Disorders since 2011. He practices at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, and is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Neurology and Pediatrics.

Joseph Masdeu, MD, PhD, represents the subspecialty of Neuroimaging as a non-voting member of the Board and was nominated by the American Society of Neuroimaging. Dr Masdeu practices in the Department of Neurology at Houston Methodist Neurological Institute and he is a Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. He has been certified in Neuroimaging since 2008 and Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry since 2018. 

The UCNS Board of Directors has nine voting members. The five parent organizations have permanent seats with one vote each. The four other seats are for representatives of UCNS member subspecialties with voting privileges rotating amongst the subspecialties. Meetings of the UCNS Board are also attended by representatives of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology who serve as non-voting "liaisons" in addition to the executive directors of the parent organizations who participate in an ex-officio capacity.
