Certification Exam-Day Instructions

All candidates should complete the certification exam advanced preparation at least two weeks prior to exam day.  On examination day, follow the instructions and information provided below.

Steps to Launch Your Exam

Ensure your computer station is prepared at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled connection time to reduce potential connection issues.
  1. Disable your browser's pop-up blocker and clear out your browser's caches.
  2. Restart your equipment to clear out any processes or programs that are running in the background and taking up your RAM storage.
  3. Launch Google Chrome.
  4. Sign in to your UCNS profile.
  5. Click "Hi, <your name>" near the top right corner of the screen to access your UCNS profile page.
  6. Click "Assessments" in the blue bar.
  7. Click the link under "My Assessments" that will take you to the examination access page.
  8. At your scheduled examination time, click “write assessment” on the right side of the examination access page to begin.
    • The “write assessment” link will not be available until approximately 10 minutes prior to the scheduled exam time.
  9. You will be redirected to the Guardian Secure Browser and prompted to download and run the LogMeIn (LMI) Rescue applet file.
  10. You will be connected with a proctor within 15 minutes. Please do not refresh or open multiple testing sessions. Select the 'Support' link on the top left side of the Guardian Secure browser if you need assistance.

Permissible and Prohibited Items for the Exam Day

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport, or work visa) MUST be available and presented to the proctor on exam day.
  • No phones, headphones, or Bluetooth devices of any kind may be used during the exam.
  • Soft uncorded foam earplugs may be used for noise canceling and must be shown to the proctor for approval prior to starting the examination.
  • Examinees are allowed to have a beverage in a clear, spill-proof container with no label.
  • No devices with memory capabilities are allowed.
  • Audible beepers, cell phones, smart watches, headphones, tablets, books, or papers must be removed from the candidate’s reach.
  • Access to reference materials during the exam is not permissible.
  • An online calculator will be available during testing.
  • One break, up to 15 minutes, is allowed after submission of the first half of the examination questions. Upon returning from a break, candidates will not have access to questions previously answered or viewed.

Late Admittance and Cancellation Policy

If an examinee attempts to connect to the proctor more than 15-minutes after the scheduled start time, they will not be able to take the exam. It may be possible to reschedule the exam within the current testing window, subject to remote proctor availability.
